Small Seed for 12-4-14

Are your walls coming down?

Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” Proverbs 25:28 (NIV)

This one is really speaking to me. What is a city like with broken down walls? Defenseless? Vulnerable? Is there something that you lack self-control about?

I lack self-control, but I have hope. I don’t have the power sometimes to get control, but I know the One who does. You, too, can ask Him for help, so you can patch your walls.

Prayer focus: Leaders

Action Step: Show love in some way to another person. Suggestion: Offer free babysitting to a frazzled mom.

Small Seed for 12-3-14

God's Perfect Prayer Formula

“Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:9-13 (NRSV)

We hear this prayer so often that we recite it by rote, but each sentence has deep and powerful meanings. Jesus tells us how to pray with it, giving us the exact formula for the perfect prayer. We don't want to take this prayer for granted!

Why is each part important? How can you use it to create your own prayers?

Today, as your action step, meditate on the Lord’s Prayer, take it apart, bit by bit, asking God to reveal deep and secret meanings to you. You won’t be sorry.

Prayer focus: Unrest in the world

Action Step: Meditate and journal on the Lord’s Prayer. What revelations did you discover?

Small Seed for 12-2-14

How great are you?

Now came an argument among them as to which of them would be greatest in the coming Kingdom! But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he stood a little child beside him and said to them, “Anyone who takes care of a little child like this is caring for me! And whoever cares for me is caring for God who sent me. Your care for others is the measure of your greatness.” Luke 9:46-48 (TLB)

I like this version. If you care for people, you care for God. And, that is the measure of your greatness. Wow.

How do you measure up right now? What rating on a scale of 1-10 would you give yourself? How can you care for people better? Write down 5 ways. Commit to do them. Pray for God to help you.

Prayer focus: Clean water in 3rd world countries.

Action Step: Show love in some way to another person. Suggestion: Notice someone today, make eye contact, and say hi. Comment on something that they are wearing or something they are doing.
