A kebbie is a shepherd's crook, which is used by shepherds even today to navigate uneven terrain. The curved horn of the crook enables the shepherd to catch a sheep or goat that is straying from the herd and also to direct the herd to a particular path. (from innovateus.net)
John 10:11 tells us that Jesus is the good shepherd and that he lays down his life for his sheep. As our good shepherd, Jesus keeps us on the path using His Holy Spirit inside us, His Word and His voice (through prayer and through others, to us). His kebbie or crook guides us and helps us so we don't get lost.
And if we do get lost, He will find us. He promises.
"...for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
Do you have a story of straying from the path? How did Jesus bring you or a friend back?
Love this post! And I learned something new; I absolutely did not know that a kebbie was a shepherd's crook. I am grateful for it in the hand of my Shepherd today! Thanks for a great word...in more ways than one!
ReplyDeleteElaine, I love learning new words too! Thank you for taking time to comment. Have a great evening.
DeleteAt times when at a crossroads in my life I am surrounded by a wonderful light, a feeling beyond joy, it so very sad that this has not happened for many years, but as J. Krishnamurti says, you can only leave the window open...
ReplyDeleteI like that Carole Anne...."leave the window open". I long for more mountain top experiences with God too. It makes appreciate them all the more, though, when they are not frequent. I cherish them.
DeleteNot straying, no. But walking a bit unwillingly (a stubborn nature), yes.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan. You stubborn too? Stubborn can be a good thing (especially for prayer).
DeleteI did not know a shepherd hook was called a kebbie. I learned something new today!
