Attributes of Writers - L

Writers are a special breed. We have unique qualities that help us make music with our words. Those same qualities might also put us in the loony bin, but isn't it worth it?! So, pull up a chair, let's explore our "specialness" together through the A to Z Challenge. If we can understand our attributes as writers, we can be cured, right?                   Dawn (P.S. Thanks for stopping by. Writing is lonely and I need your company!)

A writer is a...

Loner -

writes alone for long, lonely hours

I don't mind my own company. I can work for hours by myself, but I still need to connect with other writers. Thank goodness for my writing group, 1st Writes. They understand, they encourage, and they help me improve my writing. Writers, find yourself a writing group! You don't have to do it all alone!

As a writer, do you mind working alone? Do you have a writing group?

Writers are...

Kindred Spirits -

a family that helps and encourages

What can other writers do for you? They can critique, encourage, motivate, kick you in the butt when you slack off, and celebrate your successes. You need other writers. The writing part of writing is a lonely job, but the editing and beyond parts -- they need kindred spirits!

Who are your kindred spirits? What makes you love them so?

"E" is for Editor(s)

A to Z Blogging Challenge - "E" is for Editor(s)

Writing Exercise: Editing is an important part of writing. Who edits your writing? What are you looking for in a critique partner?  List specifics. Share in the Comment Section.

My response is below.

I joined a Christian Writing Group, 1st Writes, over a year ago and it was one of the best things I ever did. It encouraged me to stretch myself in new ways and to share my writing out loud with others. The words have been pouring out ever since.

We share our writing, do devotions, critique, learn writing tips, and encourage each other. In addition, three of us from the group e-mail our writing to each other for more in-depth critiques. I've gotten some great suggestions that I would never have thought of on my own. I can't imagine writing without "my group".

What I appreciate from them is:
  • honest suggestions
  • help with grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • help to get word count down (it's hard to cut your own words!)
  • their encouragement and support!

Special thanks to Pam and Brianna for your friendship. May we, with God's help, continue to lift each other in our writing.  I pray others find similar writing pals.
