Small Seed for 2-23-15: Prayer

Not Hearing God, Can Be Good?

When I remember these things,
I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.” Psalm 42:4 (NKJV)

I sometimes struggle with authentic prayer. At times, I have prayer that is a sweet communion with God, where I am fully in His Presence. Other times, I feel like the line is disconnected, like I'm trying too hard to make meaningful prayer happen. I know God still hears me, but I wonder if am I talking too much or doing it wrong and I can't hear God's voice.

A month ago, I started a new routine of waking early to spend time in prayer and study before I start my day. It has been wonderful and has helped me focus on God better for the day, but I still struggle with prayer on some days.

But, then I think...

Perhaps it's good that I don't hear from God all the time. Not hearing makes me cherish the times I do. Not hearing makes me long for those times more.

How about you? Do you struggle sometimes with prayer or with hearing God's voice?

Daily Scripture, Questions, Prayer, & Action Step

I've been writing a daily Scripture focus for a few of my friends that includes questions, prayer, and a showing love action step. I'm going to start sharing it on "The Write Soil" too. I need a catchy name for them.
My ideas so far:
*Today's Trowel Full     *Daily Good Soil     *Dig Deeper Daily
Do you like any of these or have a better idea?
All of them will be in the below format.

Today's Focus:
Ephesians 5:15-17. What does living wisely mean to you? How do you understand the will of the Lord? Change one thing in your life that will help you live more wisely.

Prayer focus: Pray that God helps you change and to make wise decisions.

Action Step: Show love in some way to another person. Suggestion: Show love to a cashier today. Females - Buy flowers as you check out and give them to her. Males – buy a snack or drink to give them.  Say, “…just wanted to show God’s love to you today”.

How to Make a Ribbon Prayer Board

This past Saturday, a friend and I had a "craft" day. She made soda tab bracelets and I made a Prayer Board.

What is a Prayer Board?
A bulletin board that contains photos, notes, and scriptures to pray about. I often finish praying and then remember something I forgot. I wanted a visual reminder.

What I used:
17" x 23" Bulletin Board (Target - $6.99)
Quilt Batting (used, from closet - $0)
1 Yard Fabric (JoAnn's Fabrics - $4)
9 ft. Ribbon* (JoAnn's Fabrics - $4)
Staple Gun
Push Pins**
Scissors
Photos of loved ones
Scriptures
Notes

How to make:
I used the directions from DIY Network: How to Make a Ribbon Bulletin Board. This has nice photos and descriptions.  Note: I used push pins instead of upholstery tacks. I also used staple gun to secure ribbon instead of hot glue.

*Ribbon Tip: Make sure you have enough ribbon. 9 ft. was not enough, but I made do. 12 ft. would have been perfect.

**Push Pin Tip: Use push pins with longer spikes so it can make it through the fabric, batting, and cork.
