Doodle Cards - Make Your Own Cards!

Doodle Card = Doodle art on a card.

Do you doodle while you are in staff meetings? Or during class? Well, maybe Doodle Cards are for you! Turn doodling into awesome cards that you can give with love!
Awhile back, I bought a doodling book because it looked like so much fun. It sat on my shelf until I needed a new elective for the teen youth group I help with. So, I started a Doodle elective.
Then, I decided to started the card ministry and a friend gave me two stacks of white card stock. Bing! Idea. I'll make cards. I'll doodle art on them! And, the teens have been helping to color them!
At first, to get started, I used the doodling book's ideas on the cards. As I gained confidence, I started adding Scripture and creating my own doodle art.
I just use regular envelopes, but you can get them in colors too!

Card Ministry - What do I put in the cards?

A card I'm working on with Scripture bookmark
Writing cards and notes of encouragement is an easy way to show you care (and to show God's love).  You can go to God in prayer and ask Him who to write. Then, pray for that person before starting.

You can keep it simple, but to make it meaningful, it should have more than just your signed name.  Here are some ideas of things to include.

1. A heartfelt note that is specific for that person. One to two paragraphs is good. Maybe you are praying for them or you recall a special moment you shared with them. Keep it positive and uplifting and always pointing to God.

2. You could add a little something extra to the card. Some ideas:
* A bookmark (I make homemade Scripture ones)
* A Scripture focus
* A gift card for coffee
* A prayer you wrote out just for them
* Artwork (from you or one of your kids or grand-kids - a great way to involve them in helping to brighten someone's day)
(Note: make sure postage is correct. 1 stamp = 1 oz envelope)

Do you add something special to your cards or notes?  If so, please share!

Card Ministry - Where do the cards come from?

Cards come from the Card Stork, right?!
When I was thinking of starting a card ministry, I wondered where the cards would come from. I had a handful of blank cards in my own card box that I could give, but would I have to constantly buy cards for it?  I didn't have a budget for that.

O ye of little faith...trust God.

So, I decided to put it in God's hands and step out in faith. I asked Him to bless the ministry, and then...

*I e-mailed all my church and writing friends and told them about the ministry (they were excited!), and asked if they had any cards to donate.

*I explained the ministry in the church bulletin and on the church's Facebook, and asked for card donations.

Donated cards have been coming in -- in gallon size baggies, in boxes, in grocery bags! I'm going to expand the ministry soon to include Birthday, Sympathy, Thank You, and Holiday cards because cards of all kinds have been donated -- how cool is that?!

Also, someone donated two reams of white card stock and that inspired me to make homemade "Doodle Cards" (more on that in a future post).

So, if you want to start a card ministry, don't fret over where the cards will come from. They'll come. Trust God.

Do you have a plethora of cards at your house that you've never used? Hmmm...maybe you could start a card ministry (hint hint).

More posts on card ministry to come. Blessings to you!
