A to Z Devotion: G is for Give

Used by gfa permission
"Then the King will say, ‘For sure, I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of My brothers, you have done it to Me.’" Matthew 25:40 (NLV)

Several years ago, we decided to give some of our money to sponsor a child. We chose a little girl, named Summan, in India (through Gospel for Asia (gfa)). Every year we got an updated picture and many letters from her.

Recently, I felt burdened to sponsor another girl, so I began looking through the children's pictures. After what seemed like hours, I narrowed the choice down to to four and my husband said, "Oh, just pick one."

But, I couldn't. I wanted them all. My daughter agreed, we needed to sponsor them all.

So, now I have seven beautiful girls:
My own daughter, G.
Summan, now graduated from gfa's Bridge of Hope Program

Sangeetha
Rinku
Bijali
Bandana
Neha (our newest and youngest sponsored child)

I call them "my girls". I have all their photos and names on my kitchen wall. My husband joked that one day I will fill the entire wall with girls. I laughed and said that was my secret plan, all along. He said, "I know" in a serious and loving way. He knows they are on my heart.

Do you sponsor a child? If so, tell me about him or her!

If you are interested in looking into sponsoring a child, take a look at Gospel for Asia. 100% of your money goes directly to the care of your sponsored child.

  1. Your sponsorship, how wonderful, did this for many years myself before old age. Very inspiring.

  2. Currently, my husband and I sponsor two girls through Compassion. Gilian in Uganda and Lidia in Indonesia. My cousin was actually able to visit Gilian this February when she and her husband when on a short-term missions trip to Uganda. Sooo exciting! And because Gilian and her sister are AIDS orphans, Gilian considers me her mom. Of course, I would rather she had her own mom still with her, but in lieu of, I am happy to adopt this role :)

    1. Susan, That is wonderful! It is like having and extended family. I know one day I will hug all my girls in heaven. How sweet it will be.

    2. It will be sweet indeed. And now I tell my cousin that if she has plans for another short-term missions trip, she should go to Indonesia :)
