A to Z Devotion: Z is for Zeta

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." Colossians 4:2 (NIV)

Definition of Zeta - a small room or closet in a church.
Dawn's enhanced definition of Zeta - a cozy, place of prayer.

Donna Partow, author of "Becoming the Woman God Wants You to Be", recommends having a dedicated place to pray in your home. Her first one was literally a closet (and not a walk-in one). No one was allowed to bother her when she was in her prayer closet.

I have a "zeta" in my living room that I go to every morning for prayers. It consists of a couch, a blanket, and a little table that holds my Bible, my devotion books, my journal, and pen (oh, and my box of tissues). In the quiet of the morning, I turn the pellet stove on, wrap myself in a blanket, and pray. I can cry out to God without interruptions. It's my own, sacred space.

Do you have a "zeta"?

  1. My zeta is the left hand corner of the couch in our family room. My Bible, my computer, a tablet and pen, etc and a coaster for my teacup are all within handy reach. It is all mine from 5 AM to 8 AM--my favorite time of the day.Congratulations on completely the A to Z Challenge! Great job, Dawn!

  2. I never knew this! I pray all over the place, but for the longest time I would kneel in my bedroom using a chair for a little altar when i was really trying to have a quiet time. Now that my nest is empty I don't pray there. I pray in the kitchen, living room bathroom and in bed. I really pray for long times in the bathtub for some reason.

    Blessings,
    Theresa

    1. Theresa, I pray everywhere too, but I have that dedicated space and time in the morning before work. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hello there.
God really doesn't care where we pray to Him...as long as we pray. I pray to Him when I'm walking in the street, when I'm driving or before I eat a meal, basically I pray to Him all the time. I fall asleep talking to Him and wake up speaking to Him where I left off! (lol). What's nice is knowing He is not a 9-5 God but is open to hear our prayers 24/7/365.
Congratulations on surviving the A-Z Challenge! I didn't get to visit your blog during the crazy month of April so I'm popping over today from the Road Trip. My goal is to visit all the blogs that linked up, before next year's challenge starts up again.
