"E" is for Editor(s)

A to Z Blogging Challenge - "E" is for Editor(s)

Writing Exercise: Editing is an important part of writing. Who edits your writing? What are you looking for in a critique partner?  List specifics. Share in the Comment Section.

My response is below.

I joined a Christian Writing Group, 1st Writes, over a year ago and it was one of the best things I ever did. It encouraged me to stretch myself in new ways and to share my writing out loud with others. The words have been pouring out ever since.

We share our writing, do devotions, critique, learn writing tips, and encourage each other. In addition, three of us from the group e-mail our writing to each other for more in-depth critiques. I've gotten some great suggestions that I would never have thought of on my own. I can't imagine writing without "my group".

What I appreciate from them is:
  • honest suggestions
  • help with grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • help to get word count down (it's hard to cut your own words!)
  • their encouragement and support!

Special thanks to Pam and Brianna for your friendship. May we, with God's help, continue to lift each other in our writing.  I pray others find similar writing pals.

  1. You know I feel the same way about our group! I appreciate your encouragement so much! I also appreciate the way you calm my fears, even when they are silly. I love that I can count on you for your honest opinion. You have a natural enthusiasm that is contagious and an artistic nature that I truly admire.

  2. I've joined a couple of groups like that, but I find it was a bit premature. I'm not at that stage yet. I need to work on getting my current story finished, and then I can start editing. I'm glad you have such a good group for yourself!

  4. Shelli, In our group, we are not editing books, but instead short pieces (devotions, family stories, etc.), so it works out well. I hope you find someone good to help edit your book!
